August 2007 Teaching Enrichment Series 

Faculty, instructional staff and teaching assistants are invited to kick off the 2007-2008 academic year by participating in one or more teaching workshops during the week of August 27. Experienced and novice instructors alike will take away practical teaching methods that address instructional design, student learning, and special topics in teaching.

Teaching workshops scheduled each day at 9:00am and 10:30am
Monday, August 27th
Wednesday, August 29th
Thursday, August 30th

Teaching Workshop Topics Include:

  • Course design
  • Designing multiple choice exams
  • Teaching through active lectures
  • Active learning
  • Resolving conflicts in the classroom
  • Student ratings of teaching...and more!

New TA Orientation: 8:00am - 12:30pm
Tuesday, August 28th

New Faculty Orientation

In addition to orientation programs offered by the Office of Human Resources and by individual colleges and departments, new University of Minnesota faculty are encouraged to attend New Faculty Orientation. New Faculty Orientation for 2007 will be held Tuesday-Thursday, August 21-23, 2007. Look for more information after the first of the year. Resources for Faculty Development

The Center for Teaching and Learning

The Center for Human Resource Development (CHRD) provides programs and services to help the University meet its strategic positioning goal of supporting and retaining talented faculty and staff who are innovative, energetic, and dedicated to the highest standards of excellence.

CHRD offers a variety of programs and services designed to build job skills and enhance professional development. We provide workshops, seminars, classes, and consulting services to over 14,000 U of M participants each year. Our facilitators are also available for customized, onsite sessions for colleges, departments, areas, or work units.

CHRD areas of service include:

  • Employee Career Enrichment Program
  • Organizational Effectiveness
  • Relocation Assistance Program
  • Supervisory Training
  • Training Services
  • WorkLife Program

The CHRD also provides online tutorials for a variety of faculty development issues such as academic job search, managing classroom conflict, syllabus development and designing smart lectures.
